This chapter of the book "Powdery Mildews: a comprehensive treatise", is dedicated to technical issues related to the culture and preservation of isolates, and the production and delivery of inoculum. The part 5.6 deals with powdery mildew assessment on differents sorts of crops, tackling different disease assessment methods, the frequency and timing of assessment, the size of the sample and incidence-severity relationships.

Description: This protocol presents a visual, non destructive quantification method based on abundance classes for quick monitoring of diseases (brown rot, powdery mildew, shot-hole of plum, red rust of stone fruit) and animal pests (plum fruit moth, aphids, plum sawfly, thrips, tortrix moths, scales, mites) on plum tree, at the field scale.
